TRIBAL HUD-VASH Program

“A rental subsidy program exclusively for tribal veterans”

What is Tribal HUD VASH?

Tribal HUD VASH began in 2015 when Congress authorized funding for a demonstration program to expand HUD VASH to Indian Country. The Muscogee (Creek) Nation is one of 26 Tribes across the Nation invited to participate. Today, MCN is operating at 110% utilization of their allotted vouchers.

Native American Veterans will be housed based on the HOUSING FIRST APPROACH where homeless veterans are provided housing assistance and then offered the supportive services that may be needed to foster long-term stability and prevent a return to homelessness.

Tribal HUD VASH  mission strives to provide:

  • Fair access to community based housing within the MCN Tribal Jurisdiction
  • Address and improve physical health status
  • Reconnect with tribal family and culture
  • Reduce substance abuse and psychiatric relapses
  • Improve and strengthen the family system

How Do I Qualify?

Native Americans who are members of a Federally Recognized Tribe must also:

  • Meet Federal or Tribal Definition of “Homeless” or “At Risk of Homelessness”
  • Be eligible for VHA Medical Benefits
  • Possess a DD-214 with Honorable Discharge
  • Household Countable Income is at or below NAHASDA limits
  • Pass a Tier III Sex Offender Clearance

WRAP AROUND SUPPORT

Tribal Services, VA Services and Community Partners

A Wraparound approach embraces the whole person. With meaningful partners, we can form a circle of resources and support around the “Veteran” to offer encouragement, stability and most of all HOPE.  Specialized care through a wraparound process requires help and support from all.

Veterans entering into the program have  many needs to stabilize their housing. The rental subsidy does not cover or provide for expensive move in and/or relocation cost such as:

  • Rental deposit or utility deposit
  • Application fees
  • Background checks
  • Furniture and Food
  • Old Bills

Community Partnership will help to strengthen the circle. Be our eyes, our ears and our voice to spread the word to end Veteran Homelessness within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

“Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.”
